A Winner At Plumpton

This entry was posted on 2015-01-14 by Caroline.

Plumpton has been a lucky track for us over the years and Regal Flow's owner Heather Dunn. Regal Flow (pictured just before he left for the races) was really tough in the horrible wet conditions and jumped brilliantly to win first time over fences. James Best gave him a super, confident ride despite knowing he preferred better ground. The whole familly have been tough stayers and so we were hopeful that 2m4f wouldn't stretch him too much even in those conditions. His half sister, Arctic Flow, won at Plumpton a few years ago and has now produced the next generation by Blue Print. There is nothing better than watching a home bred horse win. It was a day for west country breeders with Dawson City bred not far from us by Audrey Goodwin, triumphing in the handicap hurdle.

On Saturday we hosted the South and West Wilts Hunt at the yard. Always a well supported meet. I was busy cooking sausages and heating mulled wine for the 70 mounted followers and umpteen foot followers who always enjoy our hospitality. It is quite a challenge getting our horses out on their lots before everyone arrived, luckily all the staff pulled together and were up at the crack of dawn to make it possible! The first trail took a route from the back of our barns in a huge circle finishing at the top of our gallops. I am pleased to say 2 of Pat's pointers, River Indus and Prince Mahler, jumped everything they came to so watch out when they make their appearance between the flags in a few weeks time.

As for the week ahead, Judge Davis is declared for Wincanton tomorrow, and it is the plan to run Mrs Jordan at Taunton on Saturday or Exeter on Monday... Lets hope the snow stays away!
