A Win at Fontwell for Strawberry Hill!

This entry was posted on 2015-02-16 by Caroline.

Fontwell has always been a lucky track for me, and the hospitality there is a joy. James Best gave Strawberry Hill a cracking ride when staying on to win comfortably in the 2m6f handicap chase. Before the race we had a few doubts that he would stay the 2m6f but after being outpaced and then staying on so well up the hill it now looks like 3m+ will be his optimum trip. This is very exciting as it opens up a lot more opportunities for him.

Haverstock's run at Wincanton was rather a "non event". Dropping him out meant he never really picked up the bridle, and then having been hampered by a fallen horse he lost interest and pulled up. I still think he needs a trip but will have to be put in amongst horses next time. We had some Valentines Day fun later on at Wincanton with What Larks parading in a rug asking someone to marry them.... Luckily she said yes!

We have two runners at Taunton tomorrow, Midnight Lira in the handicap chase at 3.10 and Cloudy Lady having her first run after a long layoff in the mares novice hurdle at 2.40pm. Posh Millie will have a first run over hurdles at Exeter on Friday, and Regal Flow may run at Exeter or Fontwell on the Sunday. Bally Legend returns to the scene of his greatest triumph on Saturday at Kempton. He has been working with great enthusiasm since his wind op and so we are hopefull for a good run.
