Brave Performances

This entry was posted on 2015-02-23 by Caroline.

What a memorable week with some very brave efforts from all our runners.

Tuesday at Taunton saw a winning return for Midnight Lira who was running for the first time since her nasty fall at Cheltenham in December. The ground wasn't going to be her favourite but she had been ready to run for several weeks and Gemma, who rides work on her at home was pleading with me to run her as she was so strong! She ran a super race, with a well judged ride from James Best to win. Despite the sticky ground she jumped boldly all the way.

Next was the turn of her full brother Bally Legend... carefully prepared following his wind op before Christmas he went back for another crack at the Betbright Chase at Kempton on saturday. Compared to his triumphant win last year the ground was heavier and the opposition stronger. However I was sure the wind op had worked as he was so full of life again and off a similar weight to last year I felt he must have a chance. He loves Kempton and what a cracking run he gave us to finnish 3rd. As his usual partner Ian Popham is still recovering from injury Tom O'Brien took the ride and did a masterfull job of preserving his enegy for the end of the race. This will put him spot on for the 2m5f handicap chase at the Cheltenham Festival - Very Exciting!

Our other brave soldier was Regal Flow who had to tackle heavy ground at Fontwell carrying top weight. He ran a blinder and finished 2nd behind a progressive horse of David Bridgwaters so we were thrilled, especially as his jumping is looking so bold and confident. Roll on the spring and some better ground where he should really excell. A Bitter Affair ran in the bumper at Fontwell and despite hating the conditions ran a much more promissing race finishing 5th.

We have a quiet week ahead now as the ground is really becomming an issue now that so much rain has fallen.

Pat has 2 of the pointers entered at the weekend Prince Mahler and The Kings Writ both would be making their debut so will only run if ground conditions are suitable.
