Towcester Triumphs

This entry was posted on 2015-05-01 by Caroline.

Evening meetings are always accompanied by raised eyebrows and a muffled groan from the staff, especially when you are in the first and the last race! However we had a wonderfull evening at Towcester yesterday. Canarbino Girl so nearly held on, just missing no.1 spot by a neck - the tongue tie and cheekpieces combination brought on a big improvement in her and together with the better ground she ran her best race yet travelling well throughout and running on strongly up the steep Towcester hill. Arriving home after midnight didn't seem so bad after all. Palmaria (pictured) also ran a very proffesional race and finished well to be 4th. It was a great testament, and just reward, for her owner Lady Sutton who has had to be very patiant with her this winter. Palmaria has gained strength and confidence over the last few months and much of the credit must go to our work rider Bea Coward who has built up a great relationship with her and rides her everyday.

The relationship your staff have with the horses they ride can make the difference between a horse developing as it should or ending up a nightmare. Palmaria went through a really difficult stage where if she had been handled with less tact and sensitivity she wouldn't have progressed at all.

Quarryman was another baby who tested our patience. Head Girl Gemma was given the task of changing his attitude and he tested her patiance to the limit at times - However she was rewarded by him behaving impeccably at his first bumper and has really grown up since. We hope he will show how much he has come on at Exeter on Tuesday evening.
