Magical Cheltenham!

This entry was posted on 2015-10-26 by Caroline.

What a red letter day we had on Friday with Heather and Chris Dunn's Regal Flow winning at Cheltenham! Given a peach of a ride by Mickey Legg, who used all his experience to keep him out of trouble and delivering him just at the right moment. He stormed up the hill in the 3m Amateur Chase seeing off Irish Raider by half a length ridden by Jamie Codd. It was such a thrill for us all, but i was especially thrilled for Heather and Chris who have been such loyal supporters of Keevil Racing for many years nows. Regal Flow was bred by Heather too which makes the result even sweeter! Anyone who has ever embaked on the path of breeding NH horses will know just how hard it is to get one from conception to the racecourse. To see your off spring standing on the hallowed spot in the winners enclosure at Cheltenham where such greats as Kauto Star, Denman and Best Mate have stood - well it doesn't get much better than that!

Regal Flow is as tough as you find - He endured a few set backs in his early career due to his confrontational nature and his refusal to give in to a fight. However this is just the kind of attitude that wins races and particularly races at Cheltenham where there are no prisoners taken on the run to the line. I am glad to say he has come out of the race well and we will see how he fares over the next couple of weeks before making a plan.

Regal Flow's half brother by Kayf Tara Knight Ofthe Realm ran a good race on Sunday at Wincanton. It was his first run back after his wind op and he will come on for that. He is crying out for 3m and a fence but will probably run over hurdles again first as he is still very green.

Larks Rising and Palmaria both have entries for Uttoxeter on Friday. I also have several lined up for Exeter next week.
