A Lack of Christmas Luck!

This entry was posted on 2015-12-29 by caroline.

Huntingdon turned out to be rather disappointing for us, Jack By The Hedge ran really well for a long way and was looking like he could win when he stopped suddenly and tailed off. We had him scoped at the racecourse and he had unfortunately bled. He has never bled before so this will need some further investigation. Prince Mahler was hampered by his weight and will be better back down in trip while these conditions prevail. He goes well on the soft but is still quite immature to carry so much weight in these conditions. Darkest Before Dawn (pictured) ran a good race, but again to carry top weight in heavy ground wasn't ideal. He was only beaten by horses carrying over a stone less than him and it was his first attempt at 3m+, so it was pleasing to see him finish 6th. It was Jack Sherwood's first ride for us and first ride back since he broke his arm, so there were smiles all round as he left the paddock.

It was outstanding to watch Cue Card battling so hard to win a spine tingling King George at Kempton. Colin Tizzard trains only a few miles away from us and is having a fabulous season. It was only last Saturday Pat and I were sharing a glass of champagne with Colin and the connections of Thistlecrack after he won at Ascot. What a pair of stars to have in the yard, may their road to Cheltenham continue to be a smooth one.

This week is quite busy with Jajamcool running at Newbury today in a novice hurdle. Denny Kerrell is entered for Exeter on Friday in the bumper and Regal Flow is set to run at Sandown on Saturday. Hopefully the hurricane and rain forcast for wednesday won't interfere with our plans too much!
