Trials and Tribulations

Horses can test the very strongest people... Our ability to remain optimistic during a bad spell tests owners, trainers and staff in equal measures. Injuries to horses (especially those who have been in the yard for years) can be heartbreaking. So much time and emotional energy as well as money has been invested in to them. Every care is taken to ensure their safety and well being but injuries and problems still occur. Jack By The Hedge was one of those, finaly succumbing to another tendon problem he has been retired from racing. He will now have a great life with Alex our yardman, and who knows what he will get up to when he finishes his box rest!

Fortunately many retire sound and go on to do another job successfully, such as Strawberry Hill who is going on to find a new career. He is sound and well and will go on to be great fun for someone in any sphere. Time Do, Cool Fantasy and To Be Frank have all gone on to do well in the world of eventing and I will gather photos of them in a later bulletin.

One who is firing on all cylinders is Regal Flow, he made the long trip to Fakenham only to be pipped at the post in a photo finish beaten a nose in the 3m feature chase. He jumped much better this time under a possitive ride from James Best. Knight of the Realm also ran that day at Warwick where the ground was like glue. Up in trip and class he was going really well turning in, but the extra 2 furlongs was just too much in the conditions and Ian Popham pulled him up before the last as he suddenly became legless. He was found to have a fribulating heart immeadiatley after the race but by the time he was washed off it was back to normal and no further treatment was neccesary. He has been working well since and the vets put it down to him trying hard in the tacky ground. He will have one more run this season before having a holiday at home... he will be an exciting novice chaser next season!

We hoped Palmaria would shine at Towcester but unfortunatley the ground once again took its toll. There seems to be no end to the rain and "Heavy" seems to be the norm, Jajamcool is having to sit tight and wait for another day as racing was abandonned at Uttoxeter because of waterlogging.... bring on some sunshine please!
