The Big Move

This entry was posted on 2016-05-18 by Caroline.

At last, after several weeks of packing and endless trips to the local dump the day finally arrived to move the horses. With the help of Wally Irvines two lorries he and Izzi and myself with the trailer delivered them safely to the new yard. The weather was gloriously sunny and they all settled in straight away. There are several turn out paddocks adjacent to the stables and it was great to see them basking in the sunshine with no mud underfoot! The view from the top barn and paddocks across the valley to Bath is stunning, it really is a peacefull spot.

The hacking is fantastic here with quiet lanes and plenty of hills for fitness work. Until the new gallop is completed the horses in racing work can use the grass gallop and Neil Mullholland has kindly allowed me the use his all weather gallop. Conkwell Grange is only 8 miles away so it doesnt take long to box down there if needed.

Our new landlady Angela Stevens couldnt be more helpfull and with the buildings, stables and walker all being installed brand new it is truly the perfect enviroment to produce happy, fit horses and hopefully lots of winners too!

An official open day is planned for September and some open mornings are to be arranged during June but Pat and I will be delighted to show any visitors around anytime if you are passing.

The only downside to moving was losing some of our loyal and hard working 'A' Team staff. My head girl Gemma Sharpe and Becky McQuiod  and also Jeremy Halford our 2nd yardman as it was too far from their homes to travel here. They were a massive part of our success at Larkinglass, as was Izzi, who although she is helping with the transition to the new yard is looking to buy a house this summer and may end up too far away to stay next season.

Luckily Alex, my yardman, is able to stay on which provides some continuity for the horses and new staff arriving. Also Bea Coward will be returning in August when we are busier!
