An Eventfull Weekend

This entry was posted on 2014-12-15 by Caroline.

We started an eventfull weekend with the disappointment of watching Midnight Lira falling at Cheltenham having been hampered by a horse falling in front of her. She was travelling so well at the time and really jumping boldly. However, despite rolling over several times she was unscathed - a great relief.

It was wonderfull to see Al Alfa and James Best powering their way to victory. It was a first win at Cheltenham for James and Ferelith Drummond who have been a tremendous support to Pat and myself over the years. Infact James' hunter was the first horse I trained point to pointing many moons ago! Al Alfa stays with us over the summer months and does lots of jumping and flatwork schooling here to get him ready for the new season. So we feel that we played a small part in his victory on Friday. Often when a jockey loses his claim they spend a time in no-mans land and have to forge a new reputation all over again. Not so with James who has been riding out of his skin this season and is being rewarded with rides from many different yards as well as the massive support he is getting from his boss Phillip Hobbs.

On Saturday Pat's team went to Larkhill point to point and General Girling had another good 2nd in a 16 runner maiden. Phil Thomas is really getting a good tune out of Danny and a win must be just around the corner!

Unfortunately the wet weather up north put pay to our trip to Southwell and Ffos Las. Hopefully Judge Davis and Canarbino Girl will run at Exeter on Thursday.

On a lighter note, with Christmas approaching all the staff joined up with the rest of the yards in the south west area for a X-mas party in Taunton and had great fun. As you can see they scrub up well... i am not sure if they looked as composed at the end of the night!
